Sourav Mallik is Senior Executive Director – Mergers & Acquisitions at Kotak Investment Banking. He also closely tracks the Materials sector.
Sourav started his career in 1995 and joined the Kotak Mahindra Group in 1999. During his career as an investment banker, he has advised a wide range of clients on their growth strategies, M&A and restructuring plans.
This includes Lafarge and CRH on their India entry and acquisition strategies; Owens-Illinois on restructuring of their India business; Abbott Laboratories on their India growth and consolidation strategy; Godrej Consumer, United Breweries and GE Shipping on restructuring; the promoters of Micro Inks and Gokaldas Exports on their divestment; and Tech Mahindra on their acquisition of Satyam. He has also advised many Indian companies and MNCs on open offers, buybacks and delistings, including Citigroup’s delisting of e-Serve and the delisting of Micro Inks.
Sourav’s outbound M&A expertise has been built by liaising with international investment banks across Japan, Western Europe and UK. He has assisted Raymond, M&M and Micro Inks in their overseas acquisitions/ restructuring and is currently working on many initiatives covering these geographies.
Sourav is a specialist in M&A Advisory, Deal Structuring, Restructuring, Valuations, Joint Ventures and India Entry services. He is also very familiar with the regulatory framework for M&A (including cross-border M&A).
Sourav was a member of the SEBI’s Takeover Regulations Advisory Committee, which recommended a new set of Takeover Regulations for Indian listed companies in 2010.
Sourav brings to bear a multi-disciplinary background, being an Engineer (Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi) and MBA (Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad) with over 16 years experience in investment banking.
